Ledge veg

I think it is safe to say that virtually everyone is aware of the importance of buying local produce and therefore reducing food miles. This is especially important when it concerns food that we can grow ourseleves at home, such as lettuce. This is why WFYSD (Welsh Youth for Sustainable Development) is starting a campaign called; Ledge Veg. With the support of; You, Me and the Climate, (YOMAC). This campaign aims to encourage everyone to and remind them of the importance and benefits of growing vegetables at home, and in this instance, in a window box! Therefore there is no excuse, even for those without gardens to get involved.
By growing vegetables yourself, it is not only rewarding, healthy and cheaper but environmentally sound - as importing vegetables contributes to carbon dioxide levels and therefore global warming! As a result WYFSD have been rapidly making window boxes out of recycled wood in a variety of shapes and sizes.
In the very near future an event will be held in Aberystwyth which will have the window boxes to show how vegetables can be grown, aswell as getting the public involved in making their own with a hands on window making session accompanied by the oppurtunity to design them and plant seeds. Alongside this, growing Calendars and leaflets will be given to give helpful hints to make the whole idea simple and hassle free!!
