I totally understand where you are coming from. I had the same problem right down to the eczema. When I was told to cut out dairy, that made me a vegan. However, I later found out dairy is not the problem but processed dairy was the problem. Like another commenter said, eating foods that were around 100 years ago is the key. My grandparents would drink milk raw and ate real butter. They also did not eat all the processed food we eat.

We need to go beyond diet and start eating what is natural and healthy.

Well I've joined Weight Watchers and I've lost 8lbs :] and i have a personal trainer now, i have tone calves now and some muscles in my arms, which i never had before.

I try to get out and go places to walk, but a) i don't drive to get to the good walking places b) i used to go on wknds with my parents but now i work wknds

But i go to the gym 1 - 2 times a week, I do a pilates class once a week, and I try do some other form of activity, like swimming, walking or doing a fitness video.

I have ups and downs with my eating habits, I don't eat over 2000 calories during the week and then one night at the weekend I enjoy myself, otherwise life isn't worth living is it?

as long as u eat 2000 calories a day, some veg, lean meat, lots of fish and a good fibrous breakfast + water, u can eat anything else as long as u dont exceed ur 2000 calorie intake. thing is
too many people focus on what to make, and the whole food aspect...end up thinking about food all day
get out of the house
do charity walks and cycles cos the gym is boring
make a difference and your physical activity will make u think less and less about food, and it will become a source of fuel for you and not a source of fear or obsession...
discover your area, hill walking and nature etc...when u get into it, it will free you, tone and fitten your body, and liberate you from...the f...ood in your head all day thing!
good luck x

I try and make sure I don't have anything naughty in the house, I don't buy biscuits or cakes or anything like that very often. The only time I do is if my bf is coming up to stay, which is usually every two weeks, so not that bad really, but I make sure its a weight watchers desert or something so its that little bit better. But still most weeks i crave chocolate at least once, so i go get it. I try not to eat it more than once but at the mo I want it quite a bit probs because I am so stressed with uni. That's put the gym on the back burner too as I have a lot of work to do.

I try and eat healthy snacks, I have hummus with carrot and pepper sticks, fruit, low fat yoghurts, snack-a-jacks, stuff like that.

I eat fish at least twice a week - either salmon or tuna. Was gonna make salmon for tea.

I alternate daily between rice, pasta, potatoes and noodles - so I don't get bored.

Let's see what have I eaten today, 2 crumpets, packet of snack-a-jacks popcorn (48 cals) a phildelphia light (no more than 30g serving) and salad sandwhich on wholemeal bread - 2 small slices, 48 cals each, packet of snack-a-jacks, a flapjack(ok that was naughty) and i have a banana in my bag.

Oh loving food is not a sin...but this is a hard one to crack if you're an emotional eater. Maybe you should try healthier snacks? I avoid chocolates and creamy food if I can because I will gain weight :)

Try having fruits as snacks and if you need to consume any proteins, have some oily fish like salmon. Oily fish has omega-3 which is good for your heart. Don't store any unhealthy snacks at home so you're away from temptations! For carbohydrates, rice is a good option and you can have it with many other food as well.

I will check that out Phillip thank you

Hi Jenny,

Most of my family aren't super skinny, but most aren't obese either, we're mainly in the middle with a few exceptions. I think the main reasons for me putting on weight are i like food and depression. I am an emotional eater. My mood affects what I eat.

Hi Nikki

I'm really sorry that you have experienced so many health problems...I believe it must be really horrible to go through!

To my experience, apple juice contains more sugar than you normally think. It's true. I used to love sweet food and drinks but after being told by my dad (he's not a doctor but his chrolesterol level is very high so he pays real high attention to what we eat) they are very unhealthy cos they contain lots of sugar, I stopped having them from 13 (I'm 16 now). I haven't gained weight right until last summer when I travelled to Asia. (A lot of temptation there with mouth-watering seafood!)

I read a women magazine in my dentist's and it was on diets. The carbonate and protein balance thing seems to work for some women but I'm not totally convienced. It might be just me having rice as carbonate...

But really, apart from all these diet things, do you know the real reason for you gaining weight? It might be a genetic factor behind?

There’s an interesting post over at the Health Journal Club that makes the case that people should just not eat anything that wasn’t a food 100 years ago. Gets rid of the aspartame, bleached GM flour, high fructose corn syrup garbage they try to pass off as food these days. If interested you can read on it here,
